The morning after the wedding: Ryan and Arlyn

May 12, 2013

One of my gifts to the newlyweds and my first daring couple shoot. It wasn’t as daring as  I wanted (haha), I sort of bullied Arlyn into doing this. When we first talked about the shoot the pegs I showed her were very simple and intimate, photos of a couple having fun outside. And then the Maggie Wilson fiasco happened. It turns out Arlyn wasn’t aware of Maggie Wilson and Victor Consunji’s racy and sexy prenup shoot  and video that she blindly agreed and said yes while she and Ryan were discussing it, thinking it was Georgina Wilson. When we found out we laughed our hearts out and then showed her the video. She actually shrieked and screamed and uttered ‘oh my’ several times that had all of us laughing again.

The day of their shoot, on the morning after their wedding I had my barrel of laughs again, courtesy of the newly married couple. She texted me on Saturday asking what she should bring to the shoot and I just told her any sleep wear will do thinking she’d bring one of the nighties that we bought a few months back. I was wrong. She presented me with a tank and bottom you might see a 10 year old wear, definitely not on someone who just got married. I was on my ass laughing and posting a pic of what she wanted to wear on instagram. Good thing I bought a nightie with me and then I worked with the clothes that they had at the hotel.

Photos were shot at the Manila Hotel using natural light streaming from the windows. I liked the photos so much that I immediately culled and edited my favorites then posted them online the next day. 😉

Hitched: Ryan and Arlyn

May 12, 2013

This is a shoot that I’m not going to forget ever. Not because Arlyn is a good friend but because she had us wait for her and Ryan for 5 long hours. Granted, they were getting married in a few weeks and their schedule was really crazy. But still not an excuse to make your photographer, makeup artist, and stylist wait for an epic 5 long hours. This was not a paid shoot, Arlyn asked me a few weeks before if I could take their photos for their the avp to be played at their dessert bar, so I was really pissed and was eating my way through the stress of waiting for her and Ryan.

If we weren’t friends with the bride I doubt if we’d have waited that long. We gave her hell for making us wait of course. And because they were late we didn’t have a choice but to shoot using strobes which was not my style. I hate using strobes and really prefer natural light and I have to admit that I didn’t expect to have photos from the shoot that I’d want to post online. 😀  But it’s all good now, the two just got married last week and when I saw my photos I was pleased so I scanned the photos from their set yesterday and selected a few that will be included in my portfolio.

E-Session: John and Zaira

September 25, 2012

When Zai asked me if I could take their engagement and wedding photos I was ecstatic. I get to go home to Boracay, bond with cousins, and shoot my first ever engagement and wedding in a gorgeous island. Then it sank in and I was panicking. I realized a little too late that I could really fail and disappoint a lot of people, including the bride who happens to be my cousin. The good thing is that when I panic I become a research maniac and google is my bestfriend. I spent hours looking at wedding and engagement galleries, taking notes of what worked or not. And then I signed myself up to a wedding photography workshop exactly a week before my cousin’s wedding where I got to practice directing and posing models acting as our brides and grooms that day.

Looking at the photos now I’m really glad Mitch informed me about the workshop. The lessons I learned that day made a big difference in how handled the engagement shoot. There are things that I could have done better but overall I’m pretty happy with the photos.

What do you think?
